I read somewhere that one of the signs of maturity of a person is recognising the fact that 99% of what happened to you and me does not have anything to do with you, him and her. 99% of stuff that happen to us daily, important, trivial, whatever, has got nothing to do with another person, regardless of that person's identity.
Have I had read it two years ago, I would have regarded it as cruel and one of the many reasons why this world is what it is and further deteriorating. Nevertheless I acknowledge its truth, or some grains of it. It is not easy to build bridges between people, and time has the peculiar effect of erasing feelings and fading memories. Until few is left behind.
Examples of people not able to grasp this is aplenty and afoot: we see it in our friends and our popular movies. A guy not over her even after some time. A friend refusing to believe his childhood friend is not the same no more. A friend who still thinks and hopes that things stay the same for ever.
Fact is that things change and with the 99% happening almost on a daily basis, everyone drifts apart somehow sometime. Conversations between two former best friends are meaningless jokes and superficial questions of banality, a futile struggle against what time and destiny has had changed. It is inevitable, and I'm not saying everyone is a hypocrite, only that we are helpless against a stronger force of nature, and no one should take the blame for things changed or remained. No one could.
The holidays after this final exam would do plenty to prove this point. Perhaps some are sick with their year-long classmates, or maybe they just couldn't be bothered. At the end of the holidays we come back and are together physically, our holidays each different from each other and none is willing to share. Unless. Sometimes attempts to share are half-hearted.
All right, back to reading the jury.
