J: She told me she's happier with him, and she no longer wants to be with me.

Me: Well...that's not really a valid reason. Because, you knew about her boyfriend since the start, but he doesn't. He's already part of her life to begin with. However, you're the secret who is constantly living with the subconscious idea that she is (unconsciously) comparing you two and will someday leave you once she finds faults in you. Hence, you'll end up being paranoid, worried and slightly insane; and she didn't get the chance to see the 'real' you. Her boyfriend, on the other hand, doesn't know anything and thinks that she's perfect. That's why he can be 'normal' and loving, which makes her think that she's happier with him. Try picturing yourself as her boyfriend- where you're actually part of her life and you believe that you're with someone who you can call your own, without knowing that she's fucking another person.

J: Wow. Thanks for helping me putting things into perspective. How do you know all these so well?

Me: I was you.

J: I feel like shit. Did you feel this way?

Me: Of course. But it's important for you to know that it's not necessarily that you're not better than him. Her clueless boyfriend had a head start and she, being the coward, decided to go with the safe option. Life is all about making choices and she doesn't has the courage to want to build a life with you. She's just saying these to make herself feel better about the choice she made.
